Our Lord is coming...

“That our Lord is coming, is certain; that his coming may be at any moment, is a matter of faith; and that we are ignorant of the time of his coming, is a matter of fact: “Ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.”” A quote literally penned by Charles Spurgeon.

A time in history where a thought like the internet was absent from the perceptions on those back then. How times have changed, with technology echoing threats of world domination. Movies screaming “beware the machine may take over” and the like; not very far from mankind’s imaginations. Changes throughout history continually evolve, and yet through it all, there are some constants that we are able to cling too. In fact we have been commanded to hang onto every jot and tittle; the Word of God is one of those beauties; praise the name of Jesus my Lord! Many churches have disregarded the power and safety of the Word of God, which sadly will be to their own peril and for those who teach that change is acceptable, they will receive a stricter judgement; a current topic would be same sex marriages. Here is the warning; Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness.” (James 3:1) – We all have our weaknesses, one in this area while another in a different capacity. Our sinful natures have taken care of that but when we twist God’s Word to accommodate our sin, then we are in danger of eternal judgement with ceaseless consequences that will carry with it God’s judgments, and who in their right mind would look to challenge God? God forbid that we would ever accommodate such a futile mind-set.

Just as it was in the days of Charles Spurgeon’s era where the same message was preached from the pulpit that the Lord Jesus is imminent, so too is it a given in our day and age that the message remains the same, the Lord Jesus is coming, His second return is looming, it is constant and there has been no change to it, “HE IS COMING!” He will return like a thief in the night, there are no ifs and buts to this message and for those who look to denounce that memorandum they will surely be caught off guard. Although we understand that many will grow impatient with this message and look to discredit it, the Lord Jesus shall return, this is a fact and will never be altered; God has set this truth in stone.

Christians must cling to this truth will all of our resolve and although it is very clear that we cannot be sure of the day we can most certainly be on the lookout for clues that God shall warn those who are looking for that day to unfold.

“Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. (Matthew 24:42-44)

With this truth alive and well where does that leave the Christian? The proceeding verses give us an indication to what we should be on the lookout for; "From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near. So also, when you see all these things, you know that he is near, at the very gates.” (Matthew 24:32-33) – We have the warning signs which our dear Lord and Saviour has warned us about and we must be prepared if and when we notice the signs of the times. It is clear that we are on the brink of this event and therefore we must not be overtaken by it. It would be expedient for us to treat each and every day from here on in just as if today could be the day of that trumpet blast where the Lord will return to gather His people and where we will be caught up into the air to meet Him. What a day that will be, even so come quickly Lord Jesus, we long to meet you in the air, Amen and Amen!

Signing off
